The Manor

The Manor is the name of my zine.  After much debate with myself and a good portion of emailing friends of 'what I should call it' *done in the finest melodramatic fashion*, Ivy came in after a long day of work and had the name nailed down in 5 minutes.

Show off.

Here's my plan.  And like all things I do, I might change my mind in the morning.  But for now, this is my plan.

I will write the whole thing.  Although I would like to have one guest person do something.

I will be doing the maps.  While I can do maps without severely scarring someone's eyes, I'm afraid my art may have that affect.

Here's the first map for The Manor.  It is for the micro adventure The Salt Pit.  Thus the name above the house.  My take on the micro adventure is something that can be played, start to finish, in the less than a half-hour.

Some of the other content I am doing for the first issue is to get a gruesome recipe from Ivy, I have a cool random table of 20 forest encounters.  Also expect a few colorful characters to add into your fantasy games.  And I may also rift of of Christian's LA article where he writes up something about where he lives and puts into game terms.  I plan to do that with rural Pennsylvania.

Advertising.  What I plan to do is advertise the current gaming products I'm enjoying.  And blogs.

That's it for now.  Time to get back to work.

Oh, and I haven't forgotten about Starter Adventures.  It is in its second edit.

  1. For me that's a great name - simple and clear with a suggestion of space and just a hint of menace. It all sounds fantastic, especially having a recipe and building on Christian's locality idea. I even like the map.

  2. Good name. As Porky says, it can be stately or spooky ("DARE YOU ENTER--THE MANOR?" Feel free to use this for your Halloween issue. ;)). Are you going to have content for a mix of systems like Loviatar?

  3. Off-topic, but... could you put full entries to you feed? Clicking outside my reader gets old fast. :)

  5. Porky Thanks. Christian has a lot of good ideas. And I hope to come up with a few of my own soon.

Trey I think there will be some mix. I plan on keeping it focused more on fantasy, AD&D and retros. But I will probably do some GURPS and modern themed things. And I plan on doing stuff for this thing called Weird Adventures.

    rgpist Done!

Dan Maps are eye candy for a gamer. I like the way the map turned out. better than i thought it would.

  6. Cool Tim! If you'd like some contributions and I can work it in, I'll be up for some art if you'd be interested. Still working on Delve! I finished most of the adventure I'm going to put in it. Still working on the distribution issue but Aaron over at Noble Knight Games indicated he would be interested in selling some of these OSR zines.

  7. I think "The Manor" is an excellent name. First for the reasons Porky mentioned, and also for the fact that it evokes the connection with your blog, a sense of the author's identity which we all recognize. And I think that's very cool.

BTW, does this mean Ivy is the "Queen of the Zine"?

  8. To Everyone: You guys are super duper supportive and THAT is very cool. Much thanks.

And I'm glad you guys like the name. We tried to hit a name that both meant something to Tim, and ties into his brand/blog.

And, and, and ... a BIG thanks to Christian who really lit a massive fire under our asses. Or arses. Either will do.

Off to clip coupons. Thanks again and have an oogie boogie day.

  10. This is freaking radical. I've always thought that zines, rpgs and the DIY ethic go together like chocolate and peanut butter. I will be your first customer! I am really looking forward to your rural Penn. material.

    Rock!

  12. @ scottsz - Me. That's a cool idea. Maybe instead of adverts we could submit coupons?

  14. Totally looking forward to this. The more zines, the merrier! Me, I kinda want to do it, but I don't actually know what I'd want to say in a zine format. Thinking about it.

  17. Tim, thanks also for enabling full feeds. Now I don't have to wait to read your blog when I'm offline (like when I'm carrying around a cached copy of the blogs I read on my iPad).

  18. Yikes! How on earth did I miss this news?!?
And how on earth do I find more disposable 'zine money without my wife finding out?!? ARGH!?!

In all seriousness...I'm looking forward to it, Tim.... Good luck!
